Creating a Family Tree Chart for Parents or In-Laws
Looking to create a Family Tree Chart for you parents or in-laws? It's easy and can take less than 5 minutes to create a gift they'll cherish always!
1) Select a template you like for a genealogy chart. Customize your starting template by selecting the number of generations you'd like to display (6-7 is the most popular!), your center configuration (we recommend "Couple") and any printing and framing choices.
2) Click "Try This Template". This will bring you into the user-friendly family tree maker.
3) Add your names, using either Family Search or GEDCOM import (or adding your names manually. If you have a FamilySearch account, we highly recommend that option. To do so, click "Import from FamilySearch", and log in with your credentials in the pop-up window.
Note: If you don't have names in a FamilySearch account or GEDCOM file, you can add names manually.
4) Follow the steps to add either your father and mother, or your father-in-law and mother-in-law to the center of the chart, and voila! Your chart is populated!
Note: If you have already synced with your spouse in FamilySearch, you will have access to create a chart showing both you and your spouse's genealogy or your in-law's genealogy from your personal FamilySearch account. If you have not synced with your spouse, you will only have access to create a chart showing your own genealogy or your parent's genealogy. To create a chart showing your in-law's genealogy you can either sign into your spouse's FamilySearch account or follow this tutorial to sync.
